<itunes:summary>Tim and Stacy talk with Emily Happach of the Peoria Children's Home. They are a specialized organization that provides professional counseling, special education and support services to children and their families. Children’s Home has been caring for the children in our community for nearly 145 years. Operating from five locations in the Peoria area, our staff of 400+ professionals are committed to community-based, family-focused programs that provide counseling, education and support to nearly 1,000 children each month. Programs for children and youth include: residential care, group homes, foster care and adoption, supervised independent living, private school, crisis intervention, mental health assessment, homeless services, in-home counseling and family preservation. We are very proud of our history in Peoria and are dedicated to improving the lives of children with special needs, but our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of a caring community. If you would like to learn more about how you can help the kids through a variety of volunteer opportunities, employment, becoming a foster parent, or making a charitable donation – please take some time to check out the rest of our site.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Stacy and Tim talk with Christie Bohm and Jill Peterson of the Festival of Lights. Celebrate the holidays with a million sparkles of excitement during the 27th annual East Peoria Festival of Lights. As one of the largest lighted nighttime festivals in the nation, the Festival of Lights officially began Friday, December 2, and continue through December 31. Millions of tiny bulbs light up a city park every holiday season in this Illinois River town, attracting about 125,000 revelers from across the country. The city's Festival of Lights kicked off 40 lighted floats that included a life-sized replica of Anheuser-Busch's Clydesdales fashioned from 90,000 light bulbs. Join the annual festival's main attraction - a two-mile winding path through a park awash in light displays that include the traditional flying reindeer and not-so-common displays of a life-sized fire truck, ski jumps, space ships and fireworks. Last year, about 25,000 cars and nearly 200 buses drove along the park's lighted trail. This season, the 27-year-old festival added a new float... The Grinch!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Tim and Stacy talk with Carl Cannon of the ELITE Youth Program now part of Trewyn School. E.L.I.T.E. started as an offshoot of C.H.O.I.C.E.S. three years ago. Carl Cannon initiated his concept at Manual High School where he was teaching young people how to gain employment, how to communicate effectively, how to dress for success, and, basically, how to grow up. Three years after its implementation in three area schools, the E.L.I.T.E. program is now succeeding in nine area schools! The program now is in the middle schools so the benefits can begin even earlier for the children. Peoria, IL is now at a 35 year low in youth crime in the community. E.L.I.T.E. works because the concept originated as a simple way to communicate effectively, behave responsibly, and dress appropriately. Carl said, " We made it cool to be respectful. Simply said."</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Tim and Stacy talk with Marylee Nunley and Larry Schaer of Retreat and Refresh Stroke Camp. About two years after Marylee's husband's stroke, She read an article about a camp for stroke survivors who had aphasia. After reading that story, She knew that She was meant to pursue the dream of having a similar camp. Her family has had a lifelong love of camping so planning and executing the camp wasn't particularly frightening. With the help and support of our local Central Illinois Stroke Council, American Heart Association, American Stroke Association, Caterpillar Foundation, Illinois Neurological Institute, and especially Dr. David Wang, we were able to realize our dream. The first camp was held in September of 2004. Through the years, we have met more and more people through the Retreat and Refresh Stroke Camps. As a result of our success, the dream to hold a single camp in Illinois has now grown to a national network of stroke camps for stroke survivors, caregivers, and family members.</itunes:summary>

Our organization started with 13 consumers and one staff member and now serves an average 875 individuals on an annual basis throughout central Illinois with a staff of 200.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Stacy and Tim talk with Brad Guidi of Camp Big Sky. The mission of Camp Big Sky is to provide accessible outdoor opportunities to children and adults with disabilities. Millions of Americans are drawn to the outdoors. Many of us grew up fishing, hunting, camping, boating, hiking and participating in a number of other outdoor activities. We sometimes, if not always, take our ability to be active in the outdoors for granted. However, one in five Americans is not able to experience the outdoors due to a disability that restricts their access to these activities. Furthermore, painfully few public and private venues for outdoor opportunities are accessible, thereby excluding those with a disability from participating.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Tim and Stacy talk with Erin Miller and Sue Barlow of the American Red Cross of Central Illinois. We talk about the what the Red Cross does and how you can get involved.

The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors. Since our founding by Clara Barton in 1881, the Red Cross has been the nation’s premier emergency response organization. Our core mission is to provide relief to victims of disaster and to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Over the years, we have expanded our services, always with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering. In addition to aiding victims of disasters — whether fires or floods, hurricanes or tornadoes, winter storms or wildfires — the Red Cross also:

Educates children and adults about personal safety and disaster prevention.
Teaches lifesaving skills, such as CPR.
    Collects and distributes blood.
Provides comfort and a critical communications link to military members and their families.

The Red Cross is a charitable humanitarian organization, not a government agency. We depend on volunteers and public generosity to fulfill our mission.</itunes:summary>
